Technology is evolving rapidly and is becoming more and more decisive in the work field. It is therefore logical that (also) the West Flanders industry is increasingly calling on technological expertise to fill challenging positions. In other words: the future belongs to technically skilled profiles!

Two years ago, Technoboost was created with the collaboration of six partners. Technoboost grew and now has nine partners. The objective was to highlight industrial sectors and technical and vocational education in a positive way. The aim was to give students a taste of the corporate reality and connect them with engineering. Soon, people could enjoy three days of technology during the fair. No fewer than 30 companies and training partners will highlight technical jobs and training. During the educational programme for primary and secondary schools, pupils will work something out in various workshops and hands-on moments.

"New technologies, innovations and digitalisation ensure that there are plenty of job opportunities in the field of engineering and technology," explains Valerie Deleersnyder, who is Technoboost's project coordinator. "Companies and schools work closely together to connect pupils, teachers and also their parents with technology. This way, pupils are inspired to make a good study choice. There has been a shortage of technical staff for years. If you want a solution to the staff shortage, it is important to invest in the youth, because they are the future."

The fair starts on Thursday 20 February and runs until Saturday 22 February. On Thursday and Friday, the fair targets primary and secondary school students. On Saturday, there will be the big public event. One can meet industrial companies, try out 20 active demos and possibly apply for a job.

The VTI of Tielt is also keen to participate in the fair. Some students are currently busy building a marble track. This marble run will be given a unique spot at the fair so that every visitor can admire the work. The 25-metre profile was made at plastic company Injextru in Tielt. The realisation is done at school and partly in the company. The design is done entirely in the school itself. Campus de Reynaert and Park Uniek are also keen to participate in Technoboost. They want to give pupils a taste of science and technology. They are given a doing assignment and have to crack codes to arrive at a good solution. (NS)

The fair is free to visit in the Europa Hall. On Saturday, 22 February, the fair will be open from 10 am to 1 pm. Feel free to come and visit us!
