Our first Maxigraduater is a fact, hurrah! We are super proud of our first school leaver Ian and were therefore very curious to hear how he felt about his first experience in the workplace. Sales Manager Deborah paid him a visit at the site in Woumen where he is working. Curious how his first week went? So are we!

What did you study?

I studied electricity at VTI Roeselare.

How did you get to know Maxicon?

I have known Maxicon for about 3 years, I got to know the company through my internship. During my internship at Maselis, I worked with someone from Maxicon, and also during my holiday job at VDL in Beveren.

What appealed to you about starting with us?
The biggest advantage is that you get your own car, but also your own equipment so that you can actually start right away.

What position did you start in?

I started working as an electrician.

What does your job responsibilities look like?

Very varied, no two days have been the same so far. One day we lay cables for wifi, for example, and the next we install cable chargers. With every job, we always make sure we have a nice finish and so much more.

Did you find it exciting to start work? Did your feelings change as the week progressed?

In the beginning I did have some stress, everything was new. As the end of the week approached, this feeling completely disappeared. I quickly found my nichein the team.

What realisations have you already completed?

Of all kinds, e.g. breaking in trays, caps and sheaves, laying wired preflex, sealing grooves, etc.

Have you learned any new things?

Yes, every day you learn something that you can use later.

What do you like about the company where you are employed?

The positive working atmosphere. The colleagues are all great guys, fun guaranteed! But even when I have questions, they don't hesitate for a second and are immediately ready to explain.

What do you like about the job? Are there any less fun points?

The nice thing about it is that there is a lot of variety in your work, so you don't have to do the same thing every day. Another plus is that you never stay in the same place.

What realisation are you proud of from the past week?

My work in general - everything I made stays and doesn't get demolished like they did at school.

What feeling are you left with after your first week of work?

A very good feeling, I can't complain about anything, everything was fine!

After reading this interview, did you also get the desire to enter the technical field? Orhave you already gained some experience? We are always looking for technical professionals! Feel free to take a look at our vacancies. Who knows, maybe we will meet soon!
